The Bay of Cádiz is an epicentre of the European airline industry with two Airbus factories and Airbus Military (formerly EADS-CASA) as well as an important network of subsidiary companies. Special mention must be made of ‘Alestis’, an Andalusian consortium recently created which operates as a first-tier Airbus contractor.

This highly technological and competitive industry is the main hope for the future of the pro- vince of Cádiz and the region of Andalusia. The proof of this is that the sector’s annual turnover now exceeds 1,500 million euros and it has recorded consistent annual growth of up to 72%.

More 2,300 highly skilled jobs and a high average productivity of 77,000 euros, Aeronautics and the shipyards are already the largest industrial sectors within the Bay of Cádiz.

In the coming years it will experience greater development due to its specialisation in structural assembly and in the technology with the current best projection: carbon fibre.

The province is involved in all current major European aerospace programs and will expand its participation in the new A350 aircraft project. It also contributes to the production of A400M, the new strategic long-range military aircraft for the EU, whose final assembly line is based in Sevilla.
