The Bay of Cádiz was hosts in 2010 and will be again in 2012 for an international celebration with special significance in Latin American countries: the Bicentennial of ‘La Pepa’. Two centuries ago, Cádiz was the chosen location for the Constituent Assembly and the promulgation of the Constitution which then became the catalyst for democratic development and subsequent legislation in both Spain and South America.
To mark this anniversary, declared to be of national interest and importance, Cádiz is now the subject of numerous public work programmes, heritage restoration projects and the organisation of related cultural activity. It has the direct backing of both the Spanish Government and the Junta de Andalucía (regional government), and will host national and international high ranking meetings, including the ‘Summit of Heads of State of Latin America’ in 2012.
